Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, is celebrating the appointment of two of its staff members as key officers at the new Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences (FUMMS), Abeokuta.

Professor Fatiu Abiola Arogundade, a well-known kidney specialist and lecturer, has been named Vice-Chancellor, while Mrs. Olufunso Omolola Adedokun, an experienced financial manager, will serve as Bursar. Their appointments were approved by President Bola Tinubu on March 11, 2025.

OAU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, praised both appointees, saying their selection shows the high quality of professionals trained at OAU. He highlighted Professor Arogundade’s 33-year career, his research in kidney health, and his role in Nigeria’s first public hospital kidney transplant program.

He also commended Mrs. Adedokun’s 24 years at OAU, where she helped improve budgeting, fee collection, and financial planning. He expressed confidence that she will bring the same success to FUMMS.Professor Bamire assured that OAU will continue to support FUMMS Abeokuta, sharing knowledge and resources to help the new university grow.
