The first edition of Adeola oyinlade & Co national essay competition for law students is open for 100 to 500 level law student in all tertiary institutions

Topic: Taxation and Development in Nigeria: Bridging the Gap Between Policy and Implementation

Rationale: Nigeria is yet again at the verge of amending the Nigerian tax milieu through some Tax Reform Bills. Are taxes reflective of the development in Nigeria? Is there a loophole in the chain of policy making and implementations? Students are expected to answer these questions.

Submission Guidelines1. Only individual submissions are accepted; co-authored essays are not allowed.

2. Essays must be entirely original and written by the applicant. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.

3. Participants are limited to one entry each.

4. Essays must not exceed 1,500 words and should not contain images or graphical elements. Footnotes are excluded from the word count.

5. Submissions must be in English and formatted as Microsoft Word documents using Times New Roman, size 12, double-spaced, and justified alignment.

6. Proper referencing using the OSCOLA style is mandatory.

7. Personal details, including the entrant’s school, must not appear on the manuscript to ensure impartiality and transparency.

8. Essays should be submitted electronically to admin@adeolaoyinlade.com.

10. The competition is not open to law graduates, as separate contests will be held later for them and Nigerian Law School students.

Submission Deadline

All essays must be submitted by 12 midnight on February 21, 2025. Late entries will not be accepted.—

Evaluation Criteria

Essays will be assessed based on:

Originality

Clarity of expression

Depth of analysis

Relevance to the topic

Grammar and spelling accuracy

Compliance with contest rules

Relevance: The essay must align with the theme and address the role of taxation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nigeria.

PRIZES

Cash prizes and five categories of awards:·

Winner: NGN 300,000.00 (+ Internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co.) and Publication of Essay on Mondaq·

First Runner-up: NGN 200,000.00 (+ Internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co.)·

Second Runner-up: N100,000.00 (+ Internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co.)·

4th – 10th Entrants: NGN 50,000.00 each (+ Internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co.).· Certificate of Participation for all participants whose entry conformed to the essay submission guidelines.
