An aggrieved widow, Jane Uche, has pleaded with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to address SIM-related challenges preventing her children from registering for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Speaking in Abuja on Monday, Uche explained that her late husband had used his phone number to generate JAMB profile codes for their children in previous exams. However, after his passing, she was unable to retrieve the SIM card, which is now required for subsequent registrations. “I have three children aged 20, 18, and 16, and none have gained admission since their father passed away. Their peers are graduating while mine are still at home. The grief keeps multiplying,” she lamented. She called on JAMB to introduce provisions for candidates facing similar challenges, allowing them to proceed with registration despite SIM loss. JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, responded by stating that while the situation is unfortunate, the board cannot override its system, which requires the same SIM card for profile code retrieval. He urged her to seek assistance from the network provider.
